Land of Royals and royalty - Udaipur

UDAIPUR Diaries------

For quite some time now Udaipur was on my wishlist of cities I wanted to visit. It was actually right up there at the top of my wishlist.

So i decided to go in August . It was a lucky chance that no other destination seemed viable in this monsoon weather and i narrowed down on Udaipur.

For hotel i did lot or research and finally decided on  Trident. I got a good deal with Third night at 50% rate and total for 3 days came at 20K. That was decent for a 5 star property.

I took a train from Delhi , that was Marwar express and it reached Udaipur in morning around 7am. I called the hotel from station and requested for early check-in. They obliged and as soon as i reached hotel i got a room. More on that and hotel review at hotel review link given below

I hadn't made a day to day plan before reaching Udaipur, but i had in my mind my must see things.

Like the Udaivillas, Lak Pichola, Citi Palace, shopping at Hathi-pol , Dharohar Dance Show @ Bagore-ki-Haveli,. I also wanted to visit Kumbhalgargh but unfortunately skipped it because i had my little kid so didn't want to travel a lot.

Day 1  :I reached in morning and decided to take some rest and settle down before heading out.

At around 2 we called our cab(say Ola) and to take us to the popular cloth market of Hathipole. Before that we wanted to have lunch and asked our cab driver to take us to a clean restaurant near the market. After having a tasty Rajasthani thali we headed to do some shopping. You can get excellent bandhani sarees, skirts, kids traditional clothes and sandals there. And don't forget to also checkout nice traditional hand made paintings. After that we headed for Sajjan Garh fort for sunset view. As we were a bit early we decided to visit the zoo in same compound. It was okish.. You can take a golf cart and cover it in 30 mins flat.

Sajjan garh is also called monsoon palace. Its a simple resort for the royalty and you get excellent view of Udaipur from the top.

In the evening spent some time at Fateh Sagar Lake and looked at the beautiful view and witnessed the life at Udaipur. This is where people of Udaipur come and spend some time and enjoy family time.

For dinner we visited 1559AD restaurant next to the lake. It was in 1559 Udaipur was build.

Day 2:Agenda of the day was to cover city palace as it was a weekday and crowd will be less. It is a very well maintained palace. But the entry is quite steep at 250 per person and camera charges extra at 250 per camera. But it was money well spent

We also covered the Jagdish temple.

In the evening we say the famous show at Bagore ki haveli.

Day 3: Today we wanted to visit the the Saheliyo ki bari. Not necessary a must visit place but still worth it.

And went for dinner at famous Jag Mandir. Its beautiful , but expensive .And food is not that great for what you pay. Just enjoy the boat ride to this palace. It's worth for the ride.

Day 4: Checkout day. Not much today and just relaxed at hotel and waited for departure from our memorable trip to Udaipur.
