A customer is a buyer of commodities such as what we may find in Wal-Mart. Essentially they are product directed and once purchased, may return to buy other products. Hence we want to build and retain our customer base. The strength of a customer relationship derived from a product line.

A Client represents a service relationship which manifests in the ability to addess a problem or capitalize on an opportunity. This may be via a product and/or a service but essentially is directed to a purposeful outcome. A lawyer, Accountant, and a management consultant a are examples. The strength of a client relationship is derived from the need for specialized resources
